On CP24 this morning I saw a report about how homeless people are starting to get desperate. The money they get from pan handling is way down, a lot of places have stopped taking cash, and a lot of places that have washrooms are closed. Just walking around downtown you can see a change in the mood (it was never good but it is getting a lot worse). Add to this a lot of people, especially restaurant workers, live paycheck to paycheck, have no savings and suddenly have no income. EI will help when they start getting it, but it will not be enough. People can avoid paying bills and rent for a month or two, but after a few days without food they will become unhinged.
I once tried a water fast. The first couple of days were uncomfortable but okay, but after three and a half days I started going crazy, completely obsessed with food.
We need to be vigilant about security - check your doors and windows, have weapons strategically placed, do not let smaller, weaker members of your family go out alone, always be aware of your surroundings, avoid confrontations but be ready to defend yourself.
