Xmas gift for beginner masseuse

Hi

A friend of mine is currently training in Swedish massage. She has a table and basic oils but i want to get some xmas presents to help her get started, maybe a good towel set, spare table sheets or similar, a book, some essential essential oils or something else someone can recommend? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Wix,

You could get her a towel set, i.e. bath sheet and two hand towels,or a couch cover with a face hole. I buy my towels from Asda or Dunelm Mill both are online best check for delivery, type Dunelm Mill in Google to see if there is one in your area. When I gave up my 'salaried' job, my colleagues gave me a John Lewis voucher and I treated myself to 4 extra fluffy bath sheets - the very height of luxury 30 years ago - I still have them!! (for personal use, I hasten to add, as I have gathered loads more stuff over the years).

Thanks everyone for your replies so far. I will try Dunelm mill, we have one where i live so i will have a look. A CD is a good idea too - can anyone recommend something? I know she likes Vangelis so something along those lines would be great?

Rather than buying a CD, make your own that is appropriate to her treatments. Imagine how much more she will appreciate it. She will be thinking of you every time she plays it!

Thanks everyone, and LuckyG, thats a great idea, i have some Brian Eno ambient music and vangelis so i am sure i could get something together. Thanks for the warning Baez, i am sure thats a worst case scenario and if it ever came to that she would stop using the CD - thanks though.

Has anyone been prosecuted for using essential oils when not 'a qualified aromatherapist'?

She can easily use essential oils by putting a few drops in a carrier oil after reading a book on it or just using lavender in a carrier?

Common sense may prevail occasionally.

I don't think any doctors are reporting a 'rise in the incidence of patients presenting with symptoms resulting from the incorrect use of essential oils used in massage' or in fact anyone presenting with this?!

Another good idea is a subscription to massage world magazine, its only like £25 for a year and is a great magazine.

Well pardon me for trying to be helpful to the poster, and so instead of me going to study to be an Aromatherapist seems a total waste of time I may as well just "get it out of a book"

I don't doubt that aromatherapy can be an art or science with higher levels of knowledge, however that does not mean IMO that an individual should be 'afraid' or worried that they are not 'qualified' if they choose to use some essential oils in their carrier oil and there is enough detail and advice in a book for a layperson to safely do this.

The examples I gave are sound the questions remain unanswered (surprise).

P.S. I'm going to cook some supper now; don't tell anyone though because I am not a 'qualified' chef it's just something I picked up from a book.
