BTW, the park is paying sharpshooters to go in after dark, and the meat is being donated to food kitchens.
Due to being Federal they can't open Valley Forge Park to hunters. Other local state park had a very quiet 2 day bow hunt awhile back, hippies found out too late.
And, will coyotes take down fully grown deer? Or would tigers be a better choice?

This has happened in several places in new jeresy and the northeast. Sometimes its sharpshooters, and sometimes bowhunters, always working at night.

i think its a sad testiment that so few people hunt (due largely to ridiculous restrictions in anti-guns states) that its even needed.

People will always find a problem. the bleeding heart animal lovers would rather see the deer end up through the windshield of a car or starving to death, or stripping vegitation bare.

They should have allowed hunting at the park years ago. Obviously whatever they've been doing isn't working.

While I'd rather see the meat go to starving people than coyotes, I think it's a waste of taxpayers' money to pay people to do what hunters would be willing to pay to do.

Coyotes would cause a lot more problems than the deer once they have gotten used to people. The animal rights people don't seem to understand that a predator that has no fear of humans, and they will grow accustomed to people and lose their fear, are going to pose a serious threat especially to children.

Coyotes are going to go after easier prey than deer it's available. They are very good at killing pets which aren't as well equipped to deal with them as deer are.

introducing a pest species to "thin out the herd" is not acceptable, come on, your literally causing a bigger problem by introducing the coyotes, since what happens to the coyotes after they kill the deer? they're going to go and find more animals to eat, including any pets or livestock in the areas surrounding the park, and if these animal rights groups had any brains, they'd notice that coyotes aren't the most humane killers, especially against deer, they chase them down, nipping at their legs until they collapse from exhaustion and injury, then eat them alive, yeah, a bullet in the head sounds a lot friendlier to the deer then sending out coyotes that maul their victim for hours before finally killing them, animals rights groupies are brainless.

Coyote introduction will not completely curb the problem. Sharpshooters will be more effective.


Then people will want cougars introduced when the small dogs and cats disappear...........

Oh, for Chrissakes! People do have to go and reinvent the wheel, and then wonder why their square design doesn't roll as well as round wheels. And you'd think a Penn State professor would be able to do a little research and find out how really poorly deer contraception works.
I do like your idea, though. Tigers are running out of natural habitat, and their numbers in the wild are very low. Introducing a new group and letting them feed on deer and Pennsylvanians would be better for the environment, if perhaps not so great for the park's business.
