Why your massage clients don't return!!

I'm a sports therapist, and specialise in myofascial release, and yes some are sports, others are dancers, actors, celebrities, that rely on being able to perform, thankfully I have built up a good reputation and get good referrals and my techniques work so they pay.

It would be nice if EVERY client paid that much, but in the real world it's £45 per hour, which people are very happy to pay.

Thankfully, I work with a few other therapists and we swap massages, which is a GREAT perk of the job!

Ha ha I'm making a loss at the moment, so does that mean that when I go for a massage, they would need to pay ME?

Shamelessly bumping my own thread

New bad experience. I booked a 2 hour fb massage with oil.

I was nearly drowned in oil and she even argued about it when I asked for less oil as it 'was good for me'.

She had told me that some client's spoil their massage because they keep talking. I was silent but she did not stop wittering away.

In the background; the joys of a local radio station with naff pop music interspersed with inane chat and repeated adverts.

My feet were overhanging the couch by about 12". The couch had all the strength of a wallpaper pasting table.

I asked for a pillow for my head when I turned over; she 'didn't have one'.

She wiped all the excess oil off me at the end with paper towels. Strangely this was the best bit of the experience as it was done with a vigor entirely missing during the rest of this humdrum affair.

Suitably oiled up I got dressed, paid £60 and stumbled out into the afternoon drizzle never to return.

Bad experience . . . whilst on holiday on an idyllic island off Madagascar my husband said he’d pay for me to have a massage . We were only staying in this particular hotel a couple of nights so I didn’t have much choice but to take their last appointment at 6:30pm on our second evening or go without, and I wasn’t going to pass up an opportunity like that.

I’d been looking forward to my massage all day and I expectantly trundled off to Reception in plenty of time for my appointment. At Reception I was directed to the ‘massage suite’ (I use the term loosely), which was about a 10 minute walk away around the back of the hotel complex in the near pitch black. It all seemed a bit dodgy as I arrived at the little hut with a curtain across the door and after a few minutes a ‘therapist’ emerged only to tell me in broken English to come back in an hour . As I have said, I was really looking forward to my massage but I was a bit put out because we also needed to eat in the hotel restaurant that evening which got very busy and it would put our evening plans out. Anyway as I was on holiday and meant to be chilling I tried not to get all cross about it (like I usually do) and decided to come back in an hour.

One hour later I duly returned and then had to sit outside for a further 15 minutes whilst the therapist finished off the previous client’s treatment. From the conversation I overheard I was given to understand that the previous client had just turned up on the off-chance, without a booking, which was why my appointment had been pushed back . Getting more and more frustrated – I really needed this massage by now - I kept telling myself ‘I’m on holiday and I will enjoy myself’. I was eventually ushered through to a cubicle with a massage couch that had seen better days. The therapist acted out a mime of getting undressed and onto the couch and I duly followed suit with one therapist standing there watching me and another one walking in and out to sort out towels from the cupboard in my cubicle. As I lay there in just my knickers I started to take in my surrounding environment. The funniest thing was that above my head was a window with a very thin blind across it. The window was apparently without glass and the flimsy blind was billowing in the soft breeze. As the massage started, from the other side of the blind I could hear men’s voices, whistling and general chatter and then a cement mixer or some other sort of machinery started up. In fact I came to realise that my 10 minute walk from Reception had actually brought me to the perimeter of the hotel complex and what I was witnessing was the construction workers just starting work for the evening on the hotel development next door! The full horror of their proximity, the flimsy blind and my nakedness then hit me . The massage I received was not a particularly good one but by this time I was more conscious of the blind blowing open and exposing me spread-eagled on the couch in all my glory with a load of construction workers looking on than relaxing! I didn’t in fact receive my full hour’s treatment either, but by this stage I just wanted to get my clothes back on and out of there!

Having trained as a massage therapist myself in the UK I know how things should be done and in hindsight I did have to laugh to myself, just because it was so far from my expectation. I shan’t be doing that again in a hurry. Complain . . ? I could have done but sometimes when you’re on holiday and language is a barrier its just not worth it . I’ll just put that one down to experience.
