Here's a list of many technical skill sets/modalities. There is a max of 20 options, so I lumped some together rather than leave them out. Pick up to 10 options that you market most effectively... the ones you feel are the most critical to building your business/reputation.

AIS, PNF, and other stretching
Personal Training, Yoga, and other Movement Education
Cross Fiber Friction
Deep Tissue / Therapeutic (I don't differentiate)
Other Fascial Work
Trigger Point Therapy
Sports Massage
Swedish / "Relaxation" massage

I intend to add a few more items to this list over the next 1-2 years, but for now I am doing fine. There are a few other things I do, but those listed here are my strong suits.

I market as an Advanced Massage Therapist.

The following is the wording I use for promoting my work. Since the majority of my clients are coming to me to "fix" something and not for a "type" of massage, this works better for me, when I am talking to a potential client.

• Specific Neck & Back Work (I'd estimate that 80% of my clients see me for "specific neck work" - that's about 50 mins. or so on the neck and about 10 mins. for traps and related structures. A lot of migraine headache, neck/shoulder pain and disc issues are referred my way. )
• Deep Tissue/Therapeutic
• Swedish "Relaxation" massage

As a point of reference, if asked, I let the following 4 descriptions fall within the Deep Tissue/Therapeutic range (even though "other fascial" can be light or deep, since it is therapeutic).

• Cross Fiber Friction
• Other Fascial Work
• Trigger Point Therapy
• Sports Massage

I am working on getting into Reflexology School (200 hour program) in the next year or so, but, with anything... it takes time to get the schedules to meld.

I market myself as only offering deep tissue. I have just added a free stretching session to paid massage clients. I just got back from the yoga conference in Boston, MA & I learned some amazing ways of doing postures that would benefit my clients

What technical skill sets/modalities do YOU market best?

Personally, I only market my services for prenatal massage. DH is a combination of therapeutic/deep tissue, energy work, trigger point, and acupressure. I think that's what I selected (not sure about the trigger point; I'll go back and check when I'm done posting this). The "problem" is that, similar to pueppi, he does a combination of "stuff", and it is very hard to differentiate. He'll spend 5 minutes working on me, for instance, talking me through what he's doing, and go through about 4 or 5 different possible modalities in that short time frame. We do get a lot of people calling and asking "Do you do deep tissue?", and I'll say yes. that he does, but so much more than that; I usually end up telling them how he just tailors the session according to what the client's desires and needs are once they come in and talk to him. Maybe that's a "custom massage"?

Yep. Pretty much the same I do. I tailor the massage to the needs.

Sometimes I have people who want to feel relaxed when they leave but want very deep work in a few areas. So, that massage may look like this --> First thirty mins. face up with neck and trap work (deep), skim the arms and legs, take ten for the feet, client turns over and I skim the posterior legs, perform deep compressions on the glutes, provide deep cross-fiber for the sacral attachments and then do deep swedish for the back (which lightens as the end of the massage nears) and gently work the arms to follow up with long effleurage strokes for the back again, and then complete the massage.

How do you describe that? I just have to do a good intake and tailor it.
