webbing on hand

Just studying my insurance policy and noticed that under pregnancy i am not allowed to press the webbing between a persons thumb and index finger - also the womb and ovary points, which i do understand..

but what is the webbing? i know this point is often referred to as the heart - left side only - or the upper lympathics but other than that...i really am not sure and how does this compromise pregnancy

I must say I have never seen insurance policys be as prescriptive as this, are you meaning contraindications or referring to points to avoid written somewhere else?

What they are referring to by webbing is looser pieces of skin between fingers. In this case between thumb and index finger - this point is an acupuncture point L1 4 hegu and one that is used to stimulate birth/labour I believe - so understandably this would not be used in any stage of pregnancy other than birth.

Wow, I've never heard of an insurance policy that would restrict a Reflexologist from practicing over an area that is governed by Chinese medicine (not a theory of Reflexology). Bizarre indeed!

Why can't you work the uterus reflex point of a pregnant woman? Isn't her uterus experiencing some of the greatest changes it will ever experience when carrying a fetus? Perhaps she shouldn't wear shoes in case it rubs the reflex area for her uterus then? I don't understand that at all.

The webbing of the thumb and finger is where the reflex points for adrenals and solar plexus are. Those are very important points to work on any person, especially someone expecting. The Hoku acupuncture point is something that requires intense stimulation, either with fingernail, moxa or a needle, to cause a response during pregnancy.

I completely agree. It always makes me angry when women are told that they shouldn't have reflexology or even use foot spas in case stimulation of the feet brings on premature labour. Noboby ever tells them they shouldn't wash up though. And there's just as much chance of stimulating a point on the hand with a fork in the bottom of the washing up bowl.

The stimulation required to illicit the response in pregnancy required to initiate labour is so intense and so specific that you'd have to be very unlucky indeed to manage it by accident.

Goodness - which insurer is this? What other interesting small print have you uncovered? I have never come across anything as 'specific' as this - and like Ismorgan says, the relevant point could be activated in a washing up bowl!
