Thai doormen/Thai guys looking for fights

Never had a problem even when alone....all places all hours!! Have seen and heard of group bashings but it's rare in Tourist areas.

You are much more likely to get a bashing if you refuse to pay the 20baht fee for parking yoiur scooter before you go anywhere near a nightclub in Thailand...555

Yeah I think there is a bit of this. Personally never seen much trouble in Thailand and the most violent fights I have seen have been up in Safari Disco which seems to draw quite a lot of undesirables. What surprised me was the speed they seemed to pick up weapons. As soon anything was brewing they all armed themselves with bottles and chair legs etc. Maybe a bit of a shock to those who expect a fight just to be with fists but if that’s how they fight then so be it, fists just aren’t going to cut the mustard.

And I have seen just the same mentality with tourists where I live in London. I live near the big rugby stadium and can remember lots of times when had the Australians or South Africans playing and things kicking off with the local kids. Not so much the level of violence with bottles and chairs over peoples heads but with the pack mentality.

How much of what you've read or heard was real first-hand info though? Any incidents like that always get overblown over time. It's not like people will post about every good experience they've had with Thais or Thai doormen.

Read any threads here (or anywhere) about such incidents, and after the first few posts it's mostly speculation and opinions that follow.

If you're polite and respectful, and basically keep your nose clean, you shouldn't have any more problems here than anywhere else, and probably far less. es:

IMHO this post shows the best way to deal with any of these problems, keep the sanook happening, keep smiling, ignore any provocation and be quick to reach for the farang's No.1 weapon in these conflicts - your wallet.

First I would say I have never been in an agressiv situation out at night. If you not look for it, always smile and never loose youre temper, I dont see how I could get in trouble. I think gooing out in Thailand must be alot safer then most places in the world. I have almost never seen fysical confrontatios, wich must bee unik, considering how manny people/level of alkohol consumption. As mentiond before, stick with the girls, dont mingle with the boys (or LBs.)

Could be worse: Could could be a group of Aussies chanting "Aussie Aussie Aussie....... Oi, Oi, Oi". Repeatedly for 4 or five hours. Why do some of you guys do that? We get your Aussies from the wife beaters, the 7/11 bottles hidden in your pockets and the rolled-up Aussie bar bar-mat in your misses bag!




Have you really seen people sing that? But I suppose its better than the truly moronic No surrender that you get the complete ****wits singing.

Never seen much trouble in Thailand with Thai guys. If you are looking for trouble then you will find it or it will find you. Imagine if you were walking down your local high street with your mates one Saturday night and a Thai guy was causing trouble then the chances are you'd probably welly him. Same same in Thailand except there are more knives than a Morrisons butchers shop.

There are far more dangerous places in the world than Thailand.

Considering how many people are totally trashed every night on Bangla or Walking Street, I honestly think its quite amazing how few fights there are.
Fighting over women, a common western 'excuse' is of course almost non existant for obvious ( rental) reasons. 55
I am certainly of the view that one is safer in Bangkok than they are in Sydney, London or LA late at night...

This is just common sense really. Going to another country and just being street wise and using your head if just the normal for me.
I can understand people thinking bad stuff about Thailand and all the fights. Been many programmes on TV about Thai night life, and if I had not been before, I would be put off by things. But I have been as it is NOT as bad as these TV shows make them out to be. Also the Papers slag Thai night life also. Same Same.

You go out to any Big city for night life, and you will see fights and people getting beat up all over the world.
Question is.. DO you get into fights at home.. If not, then you don't need to worry about getting into fights in Thailand.

Never once had a issue with Thai Guys or Door Men...

Infact I rate them above the doormen in sydney... Goes with out saying though, if you treat them like shit, they are going to do the same...

Well i'm Asian American....so while I am a Farang, I look like i could fit in.

I had one experience, where at Hollywood I was given nasty attitude when i entered at 10pm and took a peek inside to see what it was like....one of the bouncers there noticed me just looking around and gave me attitude. I certainly felt he was looking for a fight. He basically asked me what I was doing here and to come back later (well the sign said it opens at 9). I just told him I was just checking if a friend was there and left. It was nearly empty at the time.

In retrospect, he might of thought i was a Thai guy and wanted me to leave..my assumption is that because locals don't have money, they want you out. (i had to prove i was not Thai to get into go-go, so I thought that might be it)

Aside from that one experience...i didn't notice Thai doormen being more aggressive or looking for a fight...in fact i think they're much more calm than American bouncers at clubs in the states.

Now, I did notice a lot of aggressive rude/drunk Aussies, acting in a manner that they were looking for either a fcuk or fight....whichever one they don't really care. Maybe for every 100 farlangs i saw that were behaving civil, i would see 1 drunk ass obnoxious farlang on bangla.

However, this is definitely not the case at MTB.

I have not seen any of it in person, but I have read about at least 3 incidents in Pattaya that has happened in the last 2-3 weeks. Not sure what caused it, but end result was a beating.

i've been in an argument with 2 thai male in hollywood
they were from bkk and we (me and 2 others) had like 7 girls around us.
suddenly they become somewhat hostile and say that we only want to **** their women (dohh)
we just say....we here to have fun and told them to drink or go and offered him a glass of chivas.
after not paying much attention to them (they were talking in thai to the girls) they wandered off.
the girls were not working girls btw.

If a random Thai bloke takes a swing at you (lets say it was unprovoked) and it's in front of one of the doormen, will the doormen jump and and help you? (assuming the guy isn't mates with the doorman)

so 1% of your total observation was dunk and obnoxious, pretty good odds in that surrounding i'd say.

btw most of us aussies ( not sure how you identified 'them' but not important) would prefer a fcku over a fight.
