terrible massage experience

I was recently desperate for a massage and as my usual therapist wasn't available, booked into a beauty salon. I explained when booking that I wanted a deep massage and the receptionist assured me that this would be the case.

I checked again with the therapist who then proceeded to do much of the massage sitting down!

And yes, I wimped out and didn't say anything!

Oh how odd, how can she "get" in there sitting down lol I have to admit I sit for some of the facial part, but then have to stand to massage trapezius for me to "get" in there lol

Well considering I had asked for a deep massage, there was no way she could have put any body weight into massaging my neck and shoulders.

Aromababe I'm astounded anyone could do a back massage while sitting down. Sure isn't it the body movements that increase the pressure.

I went for a facial with head massage yesterday and it was truly wonderful. Felt so relaxed after that, can put the other experience out of my mind now!

This is an important point because we must protect our backs while massaging and therefore the correct stance is essential. For me, a lot of my massage "power" comes from my legs and knees.

It is possilbe to use more pressure sitting down/kneeling to work prone on the neck and upper traps. The pressure will come by sitting slightly forward of the chair and using body weight to move your hands/knuckles across.

However I'm guessing if it was a beauty therapist she may not have used the above technique (sorry beauty therapists).

Its a funny business, being a professional massage practitioner, and then going for a massage oneself.

I love pretending I'm in IT or something and that I know nothing about massage!!! Trouble is I do, a fair bit, and often its just not that good. But if it is good, I might be really trying to absorb their moves and technique and not really relaxing into the massage!

There are always massages that are a safer bet when your not sure about who your getting. A head massage is usually deeply relaxing and they'd have to be absolutely awful to make it otherwise. Having said that, if your looking for a half decent massage, never ever go to a beauty salon!! You'd get a better massage down at the local butchers! Lol!

I guess in theory someone could give you a decent, gentle relaxing massage while sitting down, though they would have to have good technique and a chair on wheels and i doubt she had either!!!
