Tea tree oil use for angular cheilitis

Hi all - i am suffering from angular cheilitis (cracked corners of mouth).

Can anyone say if applying tea tree oil to the cracked areas would be effective?

if so should I dilute a few drops in an ordinary carrier oil?

Poor you, that must be painful. Personally I would dilute it, not good on open wounds neat !

This is most likely a reflection (reflex) of what is going on in the intestine. Any signs of inflammation lower down? Or simply dehydration. perhaps? Aim your rationale for treatment at the function of the gut.

It is also likely to be a fungal infection, in which case there are oral fungicidal gels which can help. If so it would also be important to treat the rest of the gut with herbals and probiotics, like this product - which is excellent.

The other thing that is possible is low B vitamins or minerals. Have a look on Wikipedia and here for lots more info about it.

I've had it and not only is it a nuisance but unsightly!

Yes, but it is not life-threatening, so best left alone unless you are dealing with it at a constitutional (causal) level.

Mine was fungal based and needed a fortnight's antifungal tablets from doctor in the end. This was only one of several symptoms! (I won't go into details!)

Hi jtp

Angular cheilitis is a common clinical sign of Vitamin B2 deficiency. I've seen it several times and it's really easy to get rid of by supplementing with B Complex 50mg taken twice a day.

What the cause of the B2 deficiency is is best discussed with a registered nutritional therapist. But in the meantime supplementing with the B Complex will knock it on the head within a couple of weeks. But, an important caveat is to take care to not maintain a diet high in refined carbohydrates, or your B vitamins will be preferentially used to metabolise those and not to address your deficiency symptom.
