Sometimes people make a joke just to try and lighten up the mood...

I've been to the spa 3 times since this virus came out and all 3 times, I was joking around with the MPA pretending to check their temperature, throat, etc. They understood I was just joking around and even cracked up themselves...now, if only the majority of people out there could lighten up too.

The difference here is, that's a joke made in private. This twitter post is a public figure who is posting publicly, and I think the biggest issue is that's a real person in the photo. I haven't looked in to it but this post could potentially harm his business, or his family. I doubt the reporter's intentions were malicious but he didn't consider the ramifications of this. I don't know the reporter and I'm not quick to call someone a racist based on a joke, but he's not the smartest guy clearly.

Totally agree he didn't exercise good judgment but I just think too many people are getting punished too severely (i.e. losing their existing job and potential for future jobs) for a simple mistake. He already apologized...just give the guy a warning...then if he is stupid enough to do it again...fine, fire his ass.
