Scared cat - how do I introduce to my other cats & house.?

I adopted a 3 year old male cat from the Shelter. He lived 2.5 years of his life locked up. He was friendly when we took him into the room to play with him. Once we got him home we brought him into my moms room and he went under the bed. I was able to coax him out with dinner. When i go into the room he is always under the bed, but i can coax him out by just talking to him. He loves to be petted. Roles on his side and back. He purrs. He nips at my hands. Uses the litter box when I'm not in the room.

How do i go about introducing him to my other cats. I have 2 other male cats that are 2 years old.

I put my boys into my room and tried to see if the new boy wanted to explore the house but he was terrified. He meowed and froze. He hunched low to the ground and found his way back to the bedroom and under the bed.

He breaks my heart, He is such a sweet cat but is it possible to get him used to the house and my other cats or no?

Cats take awhile to adjust to a new environment. I think the other cats will really help him realize what it is to be a "real cat." Give it at least a week, maybe two, if he hasn't adjusted, then he probably won't. Good luck to you!

Is he a neutered cat? or Have you neutered all of your household cats?
Unneutered cats usually will fight each other(even after they became friends) in breeding season and it's more easy to introduce neutered cats to each other since they have lost the sense of 'Sex competition' among them.

Some cats can accept new comers(especially if it's kitten) and other cats will not accept outsider at all or accept each other presence but prefer to avoid each other. Please analyze their their personality first before you start to introduce this new cat.

So,these are what you need to do to introduce him:
1. Separate this new cat and your other cats in one singe room until he feels comfortable enough with the presence of your cats and your resident cats get used to him. Let him and the your cats to be able to see each other but can't come closer to threaten each other.

2. Feed them in separate room to avoid competition for food.

3. Don't forget to give your attention to your resident cats so they won't feel ignored by you.

4. Do steps 1,2,and 3 everyday until they feel safe and not aggressive with each other,then you can carefully release this new cat to introduce himself physically to the your resident cats. Observe them,and if you find any kind of aggression quickly separate them(use towel to wrap him and take him away if you can't hold their fight). If all your cats can't accept him after you did all these steps then the best solution is let him to live in separate room.

you should leave him in the room for AT LEAST 2 weeks after you got the cat this way he will get used to the sights and smells of the house. It is important that you NEVER let your cat out of that room unless you find that he is no longer under the bed because if he is still under the bed that means that he is scared and he really does not want to be bothered. Once you notice that he is starting to come out more often then put your other 2 cats away and leave the door to the room that he is in open and let him explore for about another 2 weeks without the other cats, you can let them out every once and a while. after that and your cat seems used to your house you can start intorducing your other cats. another tactic you could try is moving your cat into another room and do this room by room until he is used to all rooms in the house. Make sure that you have a special place that he can always go so that he feels secure (under the bed, a closet, or even a cat carrier) I hope that this helps!
