BTW: Are we deciding to forever change the meaning of TOFTT? Traditionally the implication of "taking one" is suffering. Thus, leaning into a pitch to be painfully struck in order to gain a base, is "taking one for the team". I have read many reviews of late in which the TOFTT acronym has only meant that they saw an unreviewed provider. While I understand the risk involved in a possibly poor session, the phrase is used even when the experience was positive and, therefore, has no connection to suffering or, in my mind, "taking one". I realize that language is fluid and forever changing. A century ago "homely" meant beautiful, and now it means the opposite. I just want to know the consensus within this community of how we will use "TOFTT".

Not to hijack this thread but, oildfieldscum, you did not, apparently, understand anything I was driving at. "Taking one" traditionally means suffering, so if it "works out for good" than that is patently not "taking one".

The second part of your post seems to indicate that you are adopting, and already assume, a new meaning to the phrase, and that merely risking the possibility of a bad time should be labeled, in this new meaning, "taking one for the team". I am not, as I stated in my original post, objecting to this change. I just want to point out that it is, indeed, a change. I have been on here for years and read dozens, if not hundreds of posts and TOFTT has always meant, until recently, suffering through a bad experience. Recently posters have started using it to mean "recon", which is fine. I just want to know that is what we are doing.

I do like artist3000's suggestion about ROFTT. The "R" could be "risk" or "recon".

It seems like we are WAY overthinking this TOFFT thing. As far as I am concerned, seeing an unknown, unverified, unreviewed provider is taking one for the team regardless of the outcome as long as information is shared that benifits the team. Good, bad or otherwise, but I am happy with calling it recon if that makes everyone feel better.

When I see TOFTT in the subject, I immediately think it was a NO, and often don't read them. TOFTT implies a negative.

Agreed. But I noticed that he wrote "glad I did" which made me curious. FWIW, I think TOFTT definitely has a negative connotation and should remain that way for ease of communication. But I have no problem with the way it was used here specifically because an extra positive note was tacked on (e.g. "glad I did). Basically, someone offered themselves to be sacrificed for the sake of the group (TOFTT), but he got lucky and was spared...lol.
