I got confirmation yesterday for flights to Phuket for Mid Feb....can't wait.
I agree with most BM's that we need to return back to LOS more than ever now.Avoiding the place wont solve the problem but being there can only help out.
Sure this is a huge tragedy, but life eventually moves on. My well wishes go out to anyone who has lost a close friend or family member.Be strong.

Hope we can "sneak in" to south of LOS and Phuket some how .. they tell us at the news that all flight´s going directly from (atleast) Sweden to Phuket will be cancelled whole January ! I arrive to BKK so i will go south as soon as possible !

I agree with you, I will be back on 1st Feb and stay with my girlfriend in Nai harn. As she works 5/7 days, and I dont want to butterfly by respect for her, I hope I want to go to kamala in the daytime. It is maybe a place that will have not solve the problems, as you say, so I maybe I will be able to do some things there more intresting than to stay on the beach 8 hours a day .... I am white skin, it is also a motivation

And i'm happy to hear your'e restaurants have escaped the carnage, I guess you must be feeling quite relieved as this is going to cost many people a lot of money, work & patience.

I am very sorry to hear about the staff though, I watched the news a couple of days ago and saw a young thai girl in a state of shock, she was only about 7 years old and had lost her mum.

To watch this little girl was agonising & i just wish i could do something to help, this has deeply affected many people all over the world but more so to us people who travel to thailand, even my mother has felt this one more due to having a son who visits phuket.

I have made a donation to the Red Cross but i think it will go to Sri Lanka, I have heard that thailand's goverment is not asking for financial aid as they don't like to be percieved as a needy 3rd world country but i don't know of this is true. If so then they must be crazy as all the affected areas need the help of the west.

First all I guess thanks for all the good/nice posts, won't go into any Moral issues here. If people come here in the near future it's gonna help out the entire local economy....e.g. My laundry (and the family house in the back) and and two adjoining laundries were practicallywiped out, without Farang sweaty T-shirts etc they'll never be able to get back onto their feet again...

I moved back to Kailm Bay today as we just got Power&Electricity back, lucikly I live on the 3rd floor, half the flats on the ground floor were wiped out. Even more luckily the school next door which was wrecked was closed as it was a sunday.

Love bar and Bunny Bar were both Ok as further up Bangla.

More importantly on the human level...
As far as we know all the Bunnies & Staff are OK, our cashier has lost family.
Hope Nick/Stevem had similar luck. Saw Gspot already.

Hi BFB !

Just heard it on the news a few minutes ago , Thailand will not ask for any financial aid so i really hope they will help there own people in a good way now!
Even heard poor Thai people giving everything they have to Farang ppl. water , clothes yes every thing they need , some old lady fed 200 farang one night with rice , coffe and stuff ... in the end i really hope many of those farang will remember and support them in any and many ways!

Been talking to ppl. in Sweden to day who are "less" hocked on LOS then i am after just 1 weeks in Phuket .. they want to go there and help :thumbsup:

Settle it down a bit. No need for jumping down each others throats. Its a sad and troublesome time for all, but things will get back to a sort of normal.

We are all very lucky as we are all still here.

As has been said elsewhere, Bangla is all but cleared, its the beach road which took the full force of the waves, which is still in need of a big cleanup, an will probably take sometime to complete.

I've got the heap of grief from friends, family, and workmates as well. They say I'm crazy to go to LOS, let alone Phuket. But that doesn't bother me. Plane leaves for BKK tomorrow at 1:30 and I'll be on it. A few days in BKK, then on to Patong!

I think the point of people enquiring about the bars being open has been missed by sohojoe.
its all about finding out if the place is up and running again so that tourist will come and spend their money.lets not forget how many Thais survive from the money they make in bars and their own little family business.
never has it been more important for them to get some quick baht so they can feed,obtain clean water,clothes, and in a lot of cases rooms to live in,not to mention medication for their injuries.imagine the impact if the bars/stores were closed for a month or more, i would say that a lot of thais would be at the temple praying for the bars/stores to come back.

has nothing to do with guys here worrying if they can get a beer.its all about giving the town what it needs at present "baht"

Sorry I keep asking everyone but noone seems to know...just that my fiance he works in The Fire Rose Bar's and wanted to know how affected all the girls etc will be...

I was at Phuket Airport yesterday and apart from the expected chaos of people trying to leave without passports and tickets it was all working well. Our flight left a little late but so what.

Now I am back in England the full scale of what has happened is really very shocking but in Patong the Thai people showed real resilience and have made a huge effort to clean up their town and rebuild their businesses.

Is another wave going to hit patong Beach? No. Is there any disease there? No.

I have many good friends in Patong and Thailand. It was a privilege to help them in this time of need. I felt a lot closer to the place because of being there during the disaster. Do I want to go back. Yes.

This has been a huge tragedy for so many people who have lost friends and families. I cannot think about Patong without feeling some shame that I now back in the UK. The Thai people need us to come, to show good heart, and to smile. This is nothng about "moral issues" it is about help and support for an industry which is mostly dependent on Tourism. Stopping the tourist wave will do much more damage and cause more hardship than any Tsunami in the long term.

I cannot personally bring back the dead. I can help rebuild the lives of the living.

Seapearl is still a mess, and looks like will be for sometime. I personally havnt heard of reports of any rebuilding activity there as yet.

As I know there is some rumours about a condo development going to happen in soi seapearl maybe whoever wants to do that may use this disaster as an excuse to hurry things along.. Who knows..... So like so many other thai's I guess my fiance is without a job for a while....lets hope our fiance visa gets fasttracked and he can come here quickly.
