Pricing Pregnancy Massage?

Be careful of offering to many discounts and specials. Packages are better, as long as they are paid for up front, non-refundable, used as "no show" insurance, and expire in 1-2 years. Your rates are your rates for a reason, the cost of running your business plus how much $ you need to make should determine your rates. Your overhead is not negotiable (normally), so discounts and specials have to come out of your paycheck, and don't forget uncle sam's cut. I just want something left for you and your hard work and investment in your education.

I have to admit, that Guinea-Pig Massage is a neat idea. Maybe someday I'll incorporate that somewhere.

My big question to you mom's and mom's-to-be... what is this "baby moon" thing? Did I miss the explanation in the post, or is this code talk for pregnant women and babies?

A "babymoon" is just a new term for an old idea - that being mom and baby actually spend some time TOGETHER. What a novel concept, eh? *rolls eyes*

The sad thing is that so many women - especially in America, do NOT take the time they need postpartum to recover and bond with their babies. In fact, a recent study I read showed that the average postpartum maternity leave lasted only a week and half - as in 11 days after the baby was born the mother was back to work full time! I'm osrry - that's crazy. It also explains why we have mothers who are so exhausted they cannot remember whether they brought the baby to the day care yet or not. At 11 days you are still bleeding, still haven't slept for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time, still haven't rediscovered your vaginal muscles yet (or had stiches removed from a C-section). Our American culture of "put yourself together and only have children if they don't interfere with your life" mentality breeds one of the highest postpartum depression rates IN THE WORLD. Yes, the world. We also have one of the highest infant mortality rates in the entire world. Yes, the world. Frankly, we suck at supporting pregnant mothers and babies.

In India, tradition dictates that mother and baby are left together to adjust to a life as seperate beings after nine months of sharing the same body- that transition should be as easy and gentle as possible....she spends 30 days with the baby and is brought every meal. The mother gets daily massages and the baby is given daily massages by her. She is fed nourishing, healing foods to strengthen her and the other women around her take care of literally everything else so her only focus is on the baby and that bonding experience. Little wonder that they have one of the lowest postpartum depression rates in the entire world, eh?

Babymoon is supposed to be like a "honeymoon" - a time to pull away from the rest of the world and adjust/adapt to your new role. As honeymoon is the private celebration of becoming a married couple, a babymooon is designed to be a private celebration of becoming parents. It's supposed to be private and with little interruption. I know some people who will not entertain visitors or baby-greeting-guests until after the babymoon is over because they want that family adjustment to be a private thing. Does that make sense? Anyway - that's what the term means. Nothing new - just a modern twist of an ancient way.
