IHM and wine

I did some taster sessions in IHM at a local hairdressers a couple of months ago which went really well and I gave out some leaflets - although nobody has yet booked in. The hairdresser asked if I fancied doing them again before christmas and of course I said yes. I have just spoken to her and she has got things all printed up saying that there will be IHM and that people can come along have their hair done, make up, manicure and IHM and have a glass of wine. A kind of girlie afternoon I suppose. Now it all sounds really lovely and I am sure it will be great but now I'm thinking well I wouldn't advvise them to have any wine after an IHM. But obviously the people booking in are after having a bit of a nice afternoon and a pamper. Any suggestions? Am I over worried? Should I just offer them water and say that really it would be best if they didn#t drink but it's up to them .... I really want to do it as I think it will get my name about and she's thinking of doind a package whereby they spend £xx and the recipient can have their hair, nails etc done. Am I being over sensitive?

I don't really know that much about IMH and its affects, but, as with any bodywork therapy, alcohol should not really be consumed before or soon after a treatment. If i were you i would advise the salon against offering alcohol.........how about you suggest that they create some non-alcoholic fruit coctails and smoothies? They are fun to make and really girly....perfect for the sort of pamper party you are describing.

If the salon wishes to go ahead and serve wine, and you feel comfortable enough to do the treatments even though the clients will have been drinking, then, you could always get them to sign a disclaimer form before you treat them. However, this is quite irresponsible and i would advise against it.[&:]

I wouldn't advise any client to consume alcohol after an Indian Head massge. As the body and it's systems have been stimulated by the massage and the client will be in a relaxed state of mind. If they drunk alcohol it would speed up the time it took to make them drunk and would probably make them feel quite ill.

With all those lovely treatments going on who needs alcohol????

I agreee with Jasper. With IHM you can get a "high" after a treatment without any alcohol. Sometimes drinking alcohol even 1 glass of wine can cause a bad reaction after IHM or any other holistic therapy (a yoga class, from experience) I would mention that to the salon owner and as RelfexKate said, ask your clients to sign a disclaimer and explain the effects the alcohol may have after the treatment. If they then want to go ahead with their glass of wine or whatever then the onus is on them to suffer any conseqence.

Hi thanks guys - you have confirmed my thoughts entirely. I always advise clients not to drink any alcohol with treatments. I know the salon will want to offer the wine and I suppose this is where I am taking a therapy into the beauty arena aren't I and it doesn't always sit does it? However as I am on the leaflets and have to go ahead ... I think that I will advise the clientsagainst having any alcohol - I would always offer them water anyway - and give them the reasons why. I think I'll also talk to the salon and get them to offer some kind of nice fruity drink too (thanks Reflex Kate). In fact, I will offer to take those drinks with me. The wine will be there anyway for those people that come along and don't have the IHM, but maybe a pedicure or whatever. It's tough isn't it really as I want to do it as it gets me 'out there' and the salon owner has said that there are lots of people interested in the IHM. Also I am planning to do a booking form and leave some leaflets down there - so maybe I will add it to all of the information. you know, it is advisable not to drink alcohol etc etc.
