How to introduce two dogs?

My Moms fiancee is moving in shortly, at the moment he lives alone with his Border Collie. The majority of the time the Collie spends the day outside as my stepdad is at work a lot. So he doesn't see many people, he's very energetic and goes crazy when he does see people. He's about five years old. He has a bad reputation around other dogs, he's been known to attack other dogs and on several occasions growl at people. Other than that he's a very friendly dog.

So my Moms fiancee is moving in with his dog. Problem is we also have a dog, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The staff hasn't been around many dogs, only two or three as a puppy and those that he passes on walks. He has never growled (in an aggresive way) in his life, only times when I play fight with him and such, but that's just playful and he will stop upon command. He is six years old, he shows his age more than the collie, but he is still in a fit condition.

Two dogs need to be introduced on mutual ground (meaning the collie couldn't come straight into our house, and vice-versa) so we took the staff, the collie and our a friends two dogs (who are collie-crosses) over the quarry. The staff had a good sniff of the crosses, no problem, tried to mount one actually. The collie arrived, had a good sniff of the staff, no problem yet. So we let them all off the leads, the collie kept going back to the staff for a bit of a sniff, and about half an hour into it the collie growled at the staff and nipped him on the mouth, this pissed the staff off and he growled and went to tear him apart, so I yanked him off the collie, and smacked him round the chops. We put both dogs back on the leads, after that there was no trouble whatsoever.

I think it went well, but they need to be able to see each other without any conflict, can anyone suggest a way to introdue them to each other?

I only briefly read the info.
But basically, its good that you've taken them for a walk together.
Dogs work as pack-members when they are out together.

When the Collie moves in, make sure to pay more attention to the other dog, so it doesn't start to feel neglected and it won't be aggressive towards the collie.

The problem with the Collie sniffing the Staff, at first dont leave them unsupervised for very long, but let it happen, as the Collie will learn not to go near the Staff a lot.
