Not yet decided but looking like Republican House, Democratic Senate.

The Jan 6th committee is in the House. Come January when the Republicans take over it will be dissolved. The Republicans will control the House but with a narrower margin than the Red Wave that they predicted or hoped for. The Senate is looking more and more like a 50/50 split which means the Dems have the power there as the tie-breaker is with the Vice President (Kamala Harris). Don’t expect much laws to get passed in the next 2 years. Equal power in the 3 branches. Republican House will try to pass laws that will die in the Senate or Vetoed by the President and vice versa.

Trump running for office is a way to avoid jail, or at least defer, federal prosecution, but he faces State crimes too and those could proceed. Charges against him prior to the 2024 election run will hurt his credibility and will drive some voters away. His base won’t believe any federal DOJ charges related to his Mar-A-Lago documents but his business / fraud issues in New York, and Georgia election interference, will be hard to call a witch hunt or deep state setup. There will be just one too many dirty issues around him and people are getting sick of hearing about election fraud and just want to move on already.

Many of the Republican candidates Trump endorsed lost so America is beginning to turn away from his MAGA brand. He’ll run for 2024 but he’ll be up against DeSantis, Pence and other we don’t know who else yet that now feel Trump is too radical for moderates (the biggest pool of voters) so they will feel that the Republican nomination is now wide open and Trump is no shoe-in. Major donors will start to see the Trump brand more and more as a riskier bet and back DeSantis, Pence or someone else. Even Kayleigh (his former Press Secretary) wants Trump to pause on his announcement until after the Georgia run-off. She’s fearing his endorsement will sink Herschel Walker

Depending on your perspective, the next few days may leave you with optimism or despair. I think the song "Cracker Island" by Gorillaz captures this uncertainty perfectly.
