A dance studio and a hospital facility are two different things. I can't imagine a hospital not allowing husbands to enter with their wives. If that is the case, I would be very amazed.

Womens hospitals do exist, and treat only women. They do NOT prevent husbands from being with their wives. There are many womens hospitals and women & children hospitals around the country. Dads visit.....nobody is saying men are not allowed inside. I'd expect if a woman wanted a massage in a prenatal massage clinic, nobody would freak out over her husband taking her and even waiting there. But he would not be a client.

The bottom line is that it's the patient's decision whether or not to have her husband/bf/brother/father whoever come in with her. Male guests are allowed, but not male patients. Maybe one of her clients wishes to have her husband wait for her while she's getting a massage or come in and get some ideas on how to help at home (I have many clients who do this). I'm sure Elliemare would oblige and has a great list of colleagues who take male clients should these men want a massage for themselves.
Elliemare, if you plan on doing ONLY fertility/prenatal massage, I see no problem with it. It's like someone who decides to practice ONLY reflexology or ONLY cranio-sacral. If you're still wanting to do your regular therapeutic treatments though, it might be a good idea to get some legal counsel if you're worried about it at all. A lot of lawyers do a free consultation.

What about a practice that focused on women's emotional issues, not necessarily physical? Like victims of abuse or trauma, women with PTSD, depression, anxiety, stress?? Just wondering what you think about that?

I'm not sure I'm all that excited about fertility, maternity and infant massage. I'm not necessarily planning on a women's only practice either, it was just a thought that needed to be entertained. I'm looking into gentler modalities these days and am being drawn more in the direction of CST and SER. Just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone specializes in the emotional needs of women? Since most men don't acknowledge their emotional health, the point may be moot anyway.

I don't know of any MTs who do, only the doctor-ly types with some sort of degree in psychology. I guess I don't really know a whole lot about SER-specific therapy, but I imagine it would be helpful to have at least a little bit of training in psychology or counseling to be able to deal with emotional therapy. I'm sure that's included in any CST/SER program, but that would be my big worry. I can deal with the occasional emotional release, but I tend to get very uncomfortable with clients who constantly treat their sessions with me like a support group or a counseling session. Maybe that should be a focus for my continuing education, too :

PS- I just found this thread with some book and article recommendations for emotional releases & memory triggers. There are also a lot of others that come up with a search of "emotional release".

Ellie, I agree with the above concerning working with emotional issues. I think it is very much needed but the right training is important.
