equine massage

I have thought time and time again about heading up to northern Va to take the equine massage course. Has anyone else taken this? I grew up around horses (have not ridden in years!), and was toying with the idea of getting back to my roots. Who here works on horses, and do you love it?

You might want to check with KindredSpirits, I know she was working with some horses doing Equine Massage...

hey there ..... i am a LMT and equine massage therapist ...... for me going to school and learning all about the equine anatomy and how i can help in a positive change with out being invasive is one of the best things ive done ..... i am making a business out of it along with people massage .....but i would have gone even if business wasnt my goal just to apply to my own horses ...... its amazing what it can do ...... and 9 out of 10 time you will see significant results after just one session ...... so if you have a love for horses do it ..... i plan to go to vet school ..... so many vets are so fast to jump to invasive procedures and medicines and sometimes thats just what needs to be done depending on the circumstances ..... but since becoming a massage therapist and learning about people and horses and putting my hands on them ......not to say im a healer ..... but i do know that it works ..... and when i do become a vet i will definitely use massage before going in invasively.... 1/2 the time the problems are in the muscles ( depending on the situation ) ......if this is something you plan to do for business ..... its definitely not something that will be huge over night ......ive been doing free equine massages left and right just to show people it works ..... and slowly they are calling for me ......good luck in whatever you do ......

No, I have not taken this course...but many have (according to their web & print publications, as well as, in my own findings and research). Although they may indeed have a fine program, I will not recommend them...my experience with them has not been a positive one.

Who here works on horses, and do you love it?

I do...and yes, I LOVE it - it's personally & professionally challenging, varied, and rewarding like nothing else. Working with animals is my passion (the miraculous bonds that we as humans share with them & their welfare).

Which program did you attend?

I am trying to decide between like 2 months in Colorado or just 10 days for the intro program down in FL next spring.

I won't be done w/ MT school until end of February and am trying to arrange this before everything else starts happening in the summer.

San Diego Comic Con in July and then NASFIC/Archon in August..... So many events, so little time! :

My apologies to Tinker9476 for answering (haven't seen Tinker signed on to MassagePlanetL for a while). I believe the program Tinker attended is Don Duran's in the Ocala area of Florida.

Thank you. That is one of the programs I was looking at, since it's shorter.

A 2 month program is just not something I could do at this point in time. Too many other time and money commitments...

You're welcome. Don Duran has an excellent reputation for the work he does. He's a FL licensed massage therapist and has been doing equine massage for many years. He is also affiliated with the veterinary college in Gainsville...which to me says a great deal about his work. He is also not churning out graduates left and right.

You can always go back to pursue the program in Colorado at another time.
