first time to thailand/phuket. Would someone be so kind as to let me in on the secrets to negotiating with the bar girls. Or do I have to learn it the hard way like you guys all did before me. Please any info will be much appreciated

no problem. and welcome to the board.
theres 2 ways. go to the bar and sit down and spot a girl you like. show some interest and she will come over to you. you can buy her a lady drink(usually 120baht,3usd). if you are getting along chances are she will ask you if she can come with you. i dont really like getting involved with girls that talk money, and if they dont, it usually means they are happy to go with you and get what you give them in the money(which unwritten rule is lowest 1000baht). but if you feel more comfortable, you can ask her that much. if agreed, you can choose to stay in the bar, or you can ask for your bill, wghere her bar fine, 200-300baht,500 in go-go, will be added

I have a friend who is a BG, she used to work in gogos until she had her appendix out. Big scar - not good for gogo, but she's got the same face, is the same person.

The reason for the B500 bar fine is that all staff in gogo's are on salaries, whereas in bar beers they are not. Then there is also the extra overheads to be covered such as air conditioning and also the payoffs.

Even in bar beers, the salaried staff such as bar tender and cashier will also attract a B500 bar fine in most bars.

It all comes down to cost recovery.
