Appointment Books or Handheld?

I was wondering if anyone uses a simple (and I mean simple) hand held device to keep track of appointments and client info in lieu of the "paper" appointment book?

I don't need bells and whistles, just something (did I say simple?) that I can easily navigate. I have tried the palm pilot thing years ago and must have input information 4 times (I had problems "syncing" with my computer) - so I gave up on that.

I have a Dell Axim handheld. It's similar to a Palm but it operates on Windows software so I can import files from Excel and Word to it. I sync mine with Outlook and have never had a problem, and I love it! I've thought of getting a phone that has Windows mobile on it as well, but I don't like the idea of having to put someone on speaker every time I needed to schedule an appointment when I was on the phone with them, and I like just being able to throw this in my purse instead of carrying around a paper planner with me.

I have the Palm t/x. I am very happy with it. I like being able to have all my clients contact information right at my fingertips wherever I go. Mainly because I have a lot of people that call from restricted numbers or say their number way too quickly to write it down.

IPAQ but it's old now. When I replace it, (soon,) it will probably be with a Palm TX. I don't think I could get along without a handheld, I've been using one for years.

I just purchased a Pam Treo 680 smart phone. I had a Palm Zire and I liked the idea of being able to back it up on my laptop as well as carry over appointments for clients who come twice a month. I am really enjoying the combo of phone and calander. I have also found that the phone numbers that I dial are automatically entered into the contact section, so I don't have to rummage around for client's phone numbers. I have friends who have purchased the more spendy Palms and had them crash. So I am feeling like I got the absolute, right device. :
I feel like I have more brains now and can fight this global amnesia syndrome, like when I can't find my car in the parking lot. :roll:

I use a palm. I didn't think I would like it at first and still used a regular calendar, but after a few weeks I started to like it better.

Palm Tungsten - fits into whatever purse I happen to be carrying w/ me so that I'm never without my calendar - "OOPS! Hi Jane, How are you? Well, let me save you that phone call,...... Happen to have my palm right here..... how about 4:30 next Tuesday? Great, see you then!!"

Happened in the supermarket just before Christmas.... picked up several appointments that way, and the clients thought it was super cool they could run into me and save themselves a phone call!

well, i guess i'm old school. i have an appointment book and a pencil. i thought about getting a "device" but i can't really see it working for me. knowing me i'd lose it, drop it, break it, delete it, flush it, run over it etc....then i'd be screwed!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! My appt. book is very portable, and I have no fear of opening it up only to find it BLANK, whole thing deleted. I'd have nightmares if I was doing it all electronically, lol. Or I'd go OCD and be backing it up every 10 minutes!!

Anyway, I'm over 40. My eyes would MISS pen and ink.

hahahahaha well, i'm glad to know i'm not alone. and i'll add one more to the list of things i might do...i could potentially see myself throwing it! there goes my entire schedule - out the window! it's just not a good idea playing frogger out in busy traffic looking for such items.

I've used an HP iPAQ, with Windows software for a few years, and I love it. It was a fairly easy transition. I travel a fair amount and having it small and portable is great. Plus if heaven forbid I ever lost it, the back up is on my Outlook program on my pc, also, if pc crashed (and has, twice), my database is in my handheld.
Plus there are goofy little games to play on the handheld when I get done with watching people in the airport or wherever! I also used it for listening to mp3's before I got an iPod.

It's easy, I like it, and will consider down the road one with a phone, too. Not quite there yet...

Actually, turning 40 was FUN. I'd made huge changes in my life and was in massage school on my 40th birthday, and knew I was right where I belonged, at the very perfect time for me to be there.

I've made huge progress in my life, but I still like pen & paper LOL.

i'm a Palm kind of girl. i love being able to toss it in my purse. i can book appointments when i'm off, and don't have to worry about having my appointment book with me.

Treo 650

I've had my Treo 650 from Verizon for almost a year now. It took a little while getting used to. But now I wouldn't be without it! I don't have to carry a phone, palm, camera, appt book, etc.

I elected not to pay for the internet, e-mail, or text message because I can do all that on my pc. But having the phone and my calendar handy all the time is great. I like using the keyboard instead of numbers (like on other phones) to type in information.

AND it has a camera so I can capture moments when I don't have my regular camera with me!

By the way I'm turning 50 in 2 months - a person is never to old to keep up with the times or learn new stuff! Besides, it helps to keep the mind sharp.

lol - good for you! I do love playing with new electronic toys, on occasion - I'm dying to get a digital camera. I love my computer, and pretty much any office equipment, so I'm sure I would love a toy in my purse, too. But honestly, I *love* to write. Not just for the sake of getting my thoughts on paper (or screen) but the actual mechanics of putting pen to paper!

I go to Staples and wander through the whole store. All of it is appealing. But before I leave, I go gaze at the ink pen isle. LOL. Yes, honestly!!

docs to go

My Treo 650 has documents to go software. So you could always put your thoughts on it and then when you sync with the PC you'll have everything. That way you don't have to try to remember what it was you were going to write later.
Documents to go works both ways - from pc to treo.

Well, for some reason I wasn't getting all these response notices in my email, so i just read all of them! Thanks for all your comments.

I had a palm V and I swear I must have "input" client info at least 3 times - I had problems "syncing" with my pc, and after reading a blog on the palm V, so did many others!

Apple is notorious for "simple" - a good thing in my mind. What are your thoughts on the iphone?
