Barba Negra is nice, but its out of the way. you dont want to be in Puerto Plata , or Costambar on your first trip, IMO. the back and forth is too time consuming.
U want to be IN SOSUA as there are lots more choices, on the beach, in the discos, casino etc. you will meet hundreds of women, literally and take your pick esp on a good night at Classicos. Just book a flight, check in at one of the many hotels : New Garden,Seabreeze, Antonios, etc etc. and you will run into MANY like minded guys you can hang with and go out hunting. Its really that easy.

DR is my favorite place on earth to play !!!! There are multiple spots to go to. I love the disco Yes its about 500 feet from LE but they dont bother anyone... If you go during the day have the taxi take you , walk in the driveway and the pool enterance is on the left. Once you enter the pool area you have entered into heaven !!!!! You will have your choice of about 50 women who will attack you . Take a deep breath and choose a few to sit with and buy them a drink. Once you pick that lucky lady negotiate a good price.... Pay the bartender ( get viagra from him if you choose), and off you and her will go to the hotel in the same parking lot. There the receptionist will hand you a few condoms and enjoy the next few hours... I highly recomend getting 2 !!!!! WHY NOT !!!!!!
Just be careful at night.Try not to wear jewelery or flash any money...remember people there make $150 a month, so your rich !!!!! Have fun..share when you get back....Are you staying near the airport? If your staying in an all inclusive you might need to tip to bring her back. Take her for the night....... I wish I could go !!!!!!

If I were you I would also read the ISOC board (In Search of Chicas). Their forum section on the various parts of DR is an excellent source of info.

The place is safe. I walked around myself in the late hours - never a hassle. I believe its all in how you handle yourself when your on foreign soil - walk with purpose, don't dawdle, walk tall. You do have to careful of pick pockets at the clubs that get jammed packed like Classico's. As you're trying to navigate around the place, girls are grabbing your arm, grabbing your junk, etc. You'll have two girls hanging with you, both of them groping but in reality one is dipping in your pocket - happens all the time. The solution is to first, in Sosua, never bring more with you than you need (drinks, etc) - do not bring the chica money with you (except if you are going to Cristal's in Puerto Plata and want a take-out girl for the night - you pay in advance); second, the money you do bring with you, split it up, not all in one place on your person; last, be aware of pick pocketing. Other than that, safe, fun, and lots of it.

Thanks for the feedback - I've been following the DR 2009 in new york section and they are discussing the places you mentioned. It sounds really awesome.. I was just a little nervious making that venture on my own. Is everything pretty safe?

In DR, its very easy to have a great time for a fraction of the cost. Go to Sosua, stay at the New Garden hotel ($55 per night). During the day you can find chicas on the beach or out by the pool where you are staying - they are all available. At night head over to Classicos. A girl for a couple of hours will cost you 1500 pesos and and all nighter will cost you 2500 pesos (36 pesos to the dollar). At Classicos, there will be 200+ girls there each night and that's just Classcos - downstairs and next door there are even more girls available. Now if your tastes are for high price girls, take a drive over to Puerto Plata and visit Cristal's - double the price for the girls (one hour upstairs in one of their rooms is $100US, and take home is $140US for all night). Food is cheap and everything is in walking distance from the New Garden Hotel.

These places like Alexis are nice places, but you are paying way too much staying there. Now if you want to stay at an all-inclusive place, try Blackbeard's.
