Hello Folks,

Please could someone answer the following questions

1) I'm coming to Phuket early Nov and have been several times a friend has mentioned that if I was to indulge..lol you first need to see the BG's card ? could someone please advise on that one.

2) I was last there March 09 and it took me a few hours to source a motorbike without giving my passport, I gave them photo copys of PP/DL and that was in Karon so does anyone know where I can get one in Patong and any related advice with that please.

3) Does anyone have any experience of the Expat Hotel and are they BG friendly ?

a BG card is her Thai identity card....it says how old she is....not that this will help you as it is all in Thai and years are different here....the hotel will check it (some only if you ask) but if she looks too young she may well just be

as for scooters pm LiL or Briofos they both rent out bikes

It is possible that the OP is referring to a "health check" card.

A mythical program whereby the BG's are supposed to receive a monthly check-up for STD's. and have it stamped on a card of some sort. The program may even be listed as some obscure law, if memory serves.

Never seen in implemented in earnest though.

not true, the dob on the id card is in the thai calender and ALSO the falang calender,so you will be able tell how old s/he is.

never seen such a thing as a Health Card for BGs in Thailand

BTW age on ID cards depends on the generation of the card...as Snowy points out the birth date is in both Thai and English (on the newer smart ones)

BMs Briofos and LivinLos can be contacted via PM function of this board....both I am sure will not need your Passport and can deliver to you at a convenient point

Yes the pink card ,pussy check every month , blood every three months cost 80 baht. Not a myth and some bars have a no card no job policy. Doesn't mean a whole lot but hey its better than nothing.

You can't have been looking too hard. They "should" all have one.
It used to be that the bar owner was responsible to make sure that a girl with a discovered STD did not go bar fine.

The problem with that is that those girls would become "hunters" (the nice girl you meet in the shopping mall).

They used to have room on the card so that the doctor could add each visit but most girls "lost" the card each time so they could show the new boyfriend a card with only one entry and pretend they had just started in the bar trade last week.

In all my time living here (+ 30 or more years before that of visiting for extended periods) I have never asked for one...never been offered one and never seen one...IMHO they are not worth the paper they are written on as the system has largely been abused/ignored...anyone going on the "pink slip" as proof of a girl being disease free should think again

Never heard of it being the bar owners responsibility ( was a bar owner), the bar sells drinks not sex thus no requirement for ensuring staff dont have STD's, selling sex is illegal in Thailand. BF's are compensation for potential lost revenue due to the girl leaving the bar and not being available to serve or receive LD's

I've seen the cards for health checks but never administered by my bar for the reasons stated above

I just cant fanthom why people take it as gospel, as it could of been anyone who has written it!

Im sure the present and past bar owners have all different ways of running their bars. So why does one example of a bar make it true across the board. I seem to remember that Trents bar had great pay/conditions for his staff. But does that mean I should write that down as an example of how bars in Thailand work?????????

I go as far as ignoring any quote from a Wiki site as evidence because 9 times out of 10 it going to be wrong at some level.

To be 100% fair, check the wiki for an introduction, check the citations for the facts. Most of the better Wikipedia articles are well cited but still, the chances of "Prostitution in Thailand" being accurate are pretty low.

Still, if I wanted to know the birth place of Mario Andretti, Wikipedia's a fairly safe bet. All about having a well tuned BS filter in place.

Fun fact, one of the biggest Wikipedia edit wars was over cats, the disagreement on whether a cat owner should be called an "Owner", "Caregiver" or "Human companion". It was more debated then climate change.

Except possibly for such things like this as you say. And even then I'm still skeptical, but a fairly safe bet for stuff like that I suppose.
