Outcall Hot Stone massage

Has anyone tried to do Hot Stone Massage as an outcall service? How would you keep the stones warm? I heard once to use a thermophore wrap and a thermal food bag. Would that actually work? Thermophores are expensive so I can't just buy one for experimentation.

I have only done a couple practice sessions on friends/family in their homes with my stones & unit.

I have found most people have very hot water in their facet. At one friends home it was 110 degrees, so my heater only needed to raise it another 10-15 degrees.

It really didn't take that long to get those stoned heated up and ready to use. I set up the table & stuff while they were heating. Also since I have to make more than one trip back forth from car to house, I get the stones set up first and THEN go back out to get the table & set it up.

I haven't yet done it on a "real" client, but I will be charging another $25 on top of the regular outcall price.

Thank you! I've been perusing the site for a while now looking for answers. I suppose the first answer to my question is that doing the full experience is unheard of. In my experience, it takes a long time for the stones to warm up and my large warmer is too heavy to carry easily anyway. I used to use it at my old studio. Come to think of it, the water was cold there, maybe that's why it took 3 hours to warm up! I could pre-heat the stones in my large warmer, then to use a small warmer at my client's house. Maybe using a thermal food bag will help the stones to stay warm enough to heat quickly.

We do it everyday.

We have the advaneforum.xxxe of having a 6 quart hot stone set in a roll-aboard suitcase stored at hour partner hotels.

First thing the MT does is plug in the stones, so by the time the table is set up and the consultation done, the stones are up to temp.

could consider using a Wullstone unit. they are light heat up quickly easy to use and one of the therapists that work with me say her clients love it. Will try using it more myself. The upsides: Infinite infared heat, light weight, convenience.

I once spoke with a fellow therapist who did hot stone therapy on her outcalls, her regular clients were set up with an electric skillet and a set of stones. If I recall correctly she had the clients buy the stones and skillet to keep at their home.
Of course, this would only work for your regular weekly or bi weekly clients?
She told me this last year and I have intended to practice with a skillet to see if it would work for me and of course so far I have procrastinated... :roll: I totally wouldn't mind hefting an electric skillet and my fave stones with me so I have no excuse for not trying it.....
Maybe someone on here will be more focused and give a report on how it works!

I tried to do this several years ago but gave up on it. I found I was spending so much time setting up and packing up (above and beyond the house call set up) that it was not worth it for me. They were not frequent clients, more like the "it's my once a year birthday treat" client.

I would arrive at the home, and sometimes people would have me set up in their bedroom up on a second floor. The lugging about would have me there an extra hour. I wrestled with charging for my time but found people did not want to pay for the extra time a in home hot stone costs, and lets face it, it's more than a regular massage in office.
I found that for me, it wasn't worth it. I could have spent that extra time with a client in my office. If I could find a way to work it to my benefit I may consider it again.

Barefoot Masters, Inc. has a great out call Stones2Go program. You use a hot pot to heat the water, and a small crock pot to keep them heated. You can see it at www.my2feet.com. Or you could take a look at the Bamboossage curriculum. The bamboo tools are very easy to clean and easier to transport.

Outcall Hot Stone massage

I do it, particularly in winter, but only with a few stones. I use the 6qt Spa Pro Stone Heater and have a HUGE belly stones, and another 5 or 6 pairs of large varying shapes in the heater, load the heater up with the stones already in it with no water, when I get to the client, It's turn on the heater and go fill the insert with the stones in it up with hot water. I turn the unit off about 15min before the end of the treatment so it has cooled down to an easy to handle temp to be able to empty the water out. It's an outcall massage with some hot stones.
If someone comes to me for a full stone treatment it is something very different - over 70 hot and cold stones used, with an 18qt stone heater and a cooler, rather than just 12 or so hot stones and a 6qt heater.
