Insurance.

Hi, just contacted my insurers to see if they would cover me for various courses, including, atr riggs deep tissue & myofacial release, kinesio taping. They didn't sound too positive about being able to cover these.

Are some insurers more flexible or willing to commit to insuring you for these extra courses? Having to wait until the end of the week for an answer from the insurers (Medical Auxillary Insurance)and the course I want to do is next week.

Who are you with now? Have you tried FHT? There is another insurance that do that sort of thing but I cant remember their name now! Im sure somebody will be round soon to recommend some others.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't insure you for the art riggs deep tissue especially if it's an add on to your current massage insurance. They might be taking their time getting back to you because they don't understand what the courses are and what that means for insurance purposes.

Kevin, do you mean that you have actually taken a course with Art Riggs in Deep Tissue massage and you now want to get insured to practice the techniques? Or do you mean that you have the DVD set by Art Riggs?

I also have the DVDs (which are really great!), but it would not have occured to me to try to get insured to practice solely on this basis. I ended up taking a short course in Deep Tissue massage (with a nice shiny new certificate!! LOL!).

They do insure deep tissue massage, although have never heard of art riggs (!), but want to almost triple the premium. up to 297 pa.

Insuring through PAs is a lot cheaper, I would definately check out the CThA or FHT.

get quotes from the FHT, complementary therapy association, and Balens before you make any decisions. Makle sure you can get insured before you do the course, or you will waste your money. these have given me quotes the same day in the past for various things. Art Riggs is pretty well known in the massage world and he is a very reputable trainer and knows his stuff when it comes to deep tissue massage so I would highly recommend any of his courses. I have one of his books whch is good and would like to get the DVDs at some point. They should insure you for the deep tissue massage.

If they are quoting that amount I'd change insurer. I only pay £50 per year (plus £40 for membership) with the FHT and every time I do a course I send off my certificate and they add it on to my insurance at no extra cost!

No I haven't but it's on my list of courses to do for sure. I've done quite a few advanced massage courses which include deep tissue techniques and have found them very useful.
