Eminence???Anyone use this before?

I am meeting with several reps to try and find a good product to use in the spa...We are meeting with Aveda and Eminence. I have heard that Eminence has some problems: short shelf life, allergic reactions to the plant-based product and the consistency of the scrubs is not easy to work with. Can anyone confirm or dispute this?

I would not use either one.

Eminence has wonderful ingredients and all products smell delicious - but they have NO preservatives. You will find yourself having to replace a LOT of product gone bad. Short shelf life on retail.

Aveda - meh -
too much fragrance - tons of places use it. Doesn't impress me at all.

Many larger spas have two or more product lines.
Consider the image and philosphy of your spa - that will steer you towards the perfect product line (as well as cost and minimums!)

If you go on one of the esthetician community boards you will get much better feedback...

I use Eminence for my own personal skin care. I love it, and the people who know it and like it will seek you out for it.

I do not use it for clients or anything like that. As far as shelf life, the products don't really have preservatives. I try to buy large professional sizes of the product, and keeping it in the fridge, usually seems to be good for up to a year. Body lotion, mineral cleanser, and yam pumpkin all seem to last about a year. I keep the serum in the fridge, too, but I use those in around 4 - 6 months.

Aveda turns me off, as well.

I took a body wrap class from Source Vital in Houston; I like their body wrap products and their facial products seem to be good. You could probably find a similar company in your area although these don't have the name recognition of the other products you mentioned.

Aveda has really gone downhill (thanks to parent company Estee Lauder, no doubt) so I can't recommend them at all.

I'm having trouble finding full ingredient lits on the Eminence website, so I can't speak to them.

Josh, you are right, the Eminence website doesn't seem to list the ingredients.

The lady I buy my product from on ebay does list the ingredients. And she has great prices. 8)

Here's a link to one product and you can browse the other products in her store for lists, in case you want to form an opinion.

The products are luxurious because they don't really add water to them (a couple of them do have water added). They are concentrated. Also, I think Eminence makes their orders when they receive them.

Seems pretty pure... I want to know what's in "Natural Cream Base" as that is not specific enough to be on a full ingredient list. I hate when companies try to hide this stuff. Really rankles.

Eminence???Anyone use this before?

We have started using Eminence scrubs and wraps at the spa so I wanted to contribute our experience. The scrubs are very different to work with compared to how I used to do it (homemade oil+salt). The scrubs are sugar based and kind of like a jelly. You are supposed to lightly pat warm tea or juice on the body and then use less than a dime size of scrub to work each body part. It is scrubby for about 5-10 strokes and then the sugar starts to dissolve. When I first tried this I thought surely I was doing it wrong, but it's just much less abrasive than what I'm used to.

After the sugar dissolves you apply about the same amount of jam-like wrap product on the body part. Then you wrap with plastic, place a hot towel over the plastic and then wrap with plastic again (Double plastic sheeting) and then solar blanket/wool blanket. Leaving the dissolved sugar on the skin is supposed to be an additional exfoliating factor, due to it's glycolic acid content. It also aids greatly in removal. One of my pet peeves with scrubs that are done before a massage is always having a bit of granules left on the body. With this product that is never an issue. If the sugar isn't completely dissolved when you put the wrap on, it will be afterwards due to the heat and moisture.

We sell the wrap/scrub combo as a 60 minute treatment for $95. The product descriptions are very enticing and since putting these on the menu they have sold themselves. Yesterday, which was an event weekend for our town, we were at capacity for that treatment, doing eleven 2 hr scrub/wrap/massage packages.

Ego, I agree that I hate when companies hide any of their ingredients. I think in our training manual I have the content of the Natural Cream Base. If I can find it I will post it for you.

My partner, an esthetician, uses Eminence products in our spa. I'm in love with them personally. I have pretty sensitive skin (it will break out if you look at me the wrong way, haha) and I've had great results with the moisturizers and masques.
She has a very loyal client base who spend hundreds of dollars on products when they come in- which, if you markup ~100%, that's quite a bit of profit.
She's been using the products since 2008.

From what I remember, the initial order cost is high (for a small spa/ independent) - $3000, then orders after that are a minimum of $200 (don't quote me on those numbers specifically, but I know I'm in the ball park). Shipping is also quite high, so be sure to take that into account.

Just want to clarify that the opening order of $3000 is only if you are getting an aesthetics account and using the facial products. If you are just getting a body account and using the body products only in professional sizes the opening order minimum is $500, which is easy to do when 32 oz of their massage oil is $55! A 64 oz tub of wrap product, which should yield at least 64 treatments or more is $180.

And the shipping does suck. They send it express Fed Ex because it's coming from Canada and anything else I guess takes so long and you don't really want your non-preserved products in transit for that long. But yeah, for heavy orders with massage oils and tubs of wraps and scrubs we have paid $150-$200. You can request Fed Ex ground, but you have to do so specifically.

We have expanded to now use and carry their facial products. We are still very happy with this stuff!
