Best Books

Hi, fistly apologies if this should have been in the student/training forum instead.
After being inspired by a college tutor I had originally thought about doing a vtct holoistic therapies course, anyway after doing a lot of research and reading decided the full body massage thing wasnt for me. I was more interested in reflexology. I then thought I would do an A&P course and then a reflexology course seperately, but the more I looked into it, it seemed the AoR course would be the better one all around for me. I recently booked this, though the course doesnt start until sept, which seems ages away. To get back to the point of my post (lol i do tend to waffle once i start) I was given a recommended reading list and I have already bought a couple of the books but I wondered if there was any one or two books which stood out.. the must haves if you like for anyone doing an AoR course...?
I turned 40 last year and am Sooooooooo looking forward to starting this, but the last time I studied anything was a very long time ago so I was hoping if I could get hold of the right books and read quite a bit before it starts it may be a bit easier to grasp.

firstly well done you for choosing reflexology! i am also currently studying this (but combined in a comp. therapies course) but have been interested in this subject for a long time.
one of my favourite reflexology books is reflexology by Inge Dougans although it is quite clinical.

Thanks, I will definately look into that book, I have just bought and started reading. Better health with foot reflexology... I also bought An introductory guide to anatomy and physiology..though introductory or not..it seems mind boggling lol

there's loads of anatomy books written for therapists out there, it all depends on how in depth your course is, my anatomy was so hard and so indepth that I now own about 5 different anatomy books lol

getting reading about anatomy especially, will help you ease into your course, cause i found that the difficult bit to get my head round.

For A&P I'd recommend either:
Ross and Wilson Anatomy and Physiology in Health and Illness - I think the AoR recommend this book for A&P
or
Anatomy and Physiology for Holistic Therapists
which was the A&P book we used on my AoR course, in fact the author was our tutor and she was really good.

For reflexology I'd go for:
Reflexology: A Step-by-step Practical Guide to Therapeutic Healing with the Hands and Feet - a really good book with lots of useful pictures. I still refer to this book occasionally. The author has her own AoR accredited reflexology school
or
Hands on Reflexology which I think is a real 'must have' for an AoR course. It covers the full reflexology routine, the history, planning a course of treatments, business matters, advertising etc. At the end of each section it has questions for you to test yourself with.

Hi there!

Please don't worry about age. When I started my course I had not studied for 33 years!! It's not easy to get in the swing but I found that the more I read the more questions I had and that I probably put in loads more time than the youngsters on my AOR course but, in the end I passed with the highest mark of all of us!!
Reading around the topic is worth it and I found the Anne Gillanders 'The Complete Reflexology Tutor' really easy to read - I even took it on holiday and read it cover to cover.
If you can get into a good book shop have a look at the books and see if something appeals to you as well as being recommended. I found that the textbooks our tutor wanted us to use often turned me off just because of the way they were presented. I still had to buy them but found others much easier to read and learn from.

Thanks for replying, I am a bit worried about my age,so its nice to hear of people in similar situations doing well
I got the Ann Gillanders book from the library last week funnily enough, have'nt had chance to start reading it yet, just getting stuck into Better Health With Foot Reflexolgy, which I am finding very intersting and so far quite easy to understand.
