Any massage therapists work within an osteopaths practice?

I'm thinking this could be a good route for me to take and was wondering if anyone else does this and if so how did you go about getting in there?

I was thinking I might just send out an email to every osteo I could find within a 20 mile radius of where I live, offer my services to their practice and see if I get any takers.

Does this sound like madness or like something that could be a goer?

No it doesn't sound like a mad idea. I'd be inclined to check their websites to see 1) see if they already have a massage therapist & 2) If there is space in their practice for you. Maybe follow up the email with a phone call so you can have a chat with them.

I work in a chiropodist clinic that as well as employing myself and another massage therapist has an Oesteopath, accupunturists and physios. For this job I was fortunate that the therapist who was leaving contacted me and some other therapist to see if we wanted to take over from her.

There is a chirocprator not far from my home based business. At some point I'd like to introduce myself to him so that we can possibly refer clients to each other.

You could also try other healthcare practitioners too, although i do not work in an Osteo/ Chiro practice, i still have a good rapport with the local ones, and have built up a good professional relationship over the years, and thats priceless.

Although I'm not a massage therapist (hypnotherapist), one of the centres I work from is a long established osteopath clinic (1940's) and they have a few massage therapists there.

I'm frequently contacted by other osteopath clinics offering me a therapy room so it probably is worthwhile.

The clinic I work from has lots of different therapies there nowadays, there are three hypnotherapists including me, a colonic hydrotherapist (there were two until recently), indian head massage, hot stone, sports and remedial massage, reflexology, counselling, psychotherapy, homeopathy, lymphatic drainage massage, acupuncture, nutritional therapy and Amatsu. Obviously, this is a large centre and they've gradually branched out over the years. It works well and several of us refer clients to each other.

I'm trying to establish a practice within a chiropractic centre, so I wish you luck. After a year, it MAY be getting some interest! But maybe in your area it will work much quicker. Only one way to find out!

I've not gotten round to sending out the emails yet, I've been laid up in bed with a rotten cold so not really been into the right mood to sell myself. I'm going to draft something today, I'll post it here, maybe you could all have a look and give your opinions and critique it for me? We could edit together even? A big healthy pages team effort?

Essence, Bannik and Phoenix, if you don't mind me asking, how are you employed by the practices you work in? Are you self employed and, in effect, rent the room from the practice or are you employed on PAYE basis?

Hi JoJo, i rarely write letters, always like to talk to people, i find you make a connection that way, once a connection is made, then you can progress with it. Letters sometimes get filed or binned, so talking about what you do, is probably best, worked extremely well for me personally.

Unfortunately, I'm on a percentage at the Osteopath's, I say unfortunately as I prefer a fixed rental. I very much doubt a therapist (at least non-osteopath) would be employed by an Osteopath clinic. If you're looking for PAYE employment as a therapist then some large spas and cruise ships are your most likely chance.

I am self-employed at the clinic and I get a paid a percentage per client. This is an ok situtation because if I have no clients I am not paying for room rental but then neither am I getting paid.

I also work one day a week in a spa also on a self-employed basis and get paid a set amount per client. Again only earning if I have a client.

Have you and your friend come up with anything that could be shared on here - we could pick over it and make suggestions etc? Have you applied for jobs before? Most applications or CV's can be tweaked to fit the job description. Main start would be to find out the names of the practice managers, and address any letters direct to them - in my experience 'Dear Sir.... rarely gets read!

She only mentioned it yesterday, I don't get to see her often, and it was one of her ideas of getting business, she rents a room at Fitness First, been there long time and it's slowing down, I said I would ask when I looked on here as I recalled someone else said the same.

I found at the start of my career the personel approach was best = go see them, then leave an A4 envelope with all CV details and personel recomendations.
Alright its all done in a matter of minutes but it gives you and them a chance to get a feel for each other.
Yes there were those that as soon as I left chucked it in the bin and others that it turned out to be perfect timing.
