It's because the vaccines are not 100% effective. To you that's proof they are completely useless. What you can't seem to understand is vaccines that are 90, 80 even 70 percent effective are WAY better than doing nothing.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are more than 90% effective after two doses, which means that over 90% of those vaccinated people won't catch covid at all. Of those who do catch a "breakthrough" case, as they did on the Yankees, the cases are much milder than more severe covid cases. With the sheer magnitude of people being vaccinated there will be statistical anomalies like the Yankees.

Even when you factor in the relatively rare breakthrough cases, with hundreds of millions now vaccinated around the world they are finding that the vaccines provide virtually 100% protection against severe illness, hospitalization or death from covid, even if you were one of the very unlucky few to still catch a breakthrough case of covid after being vaccinated.

VAERS is a reporting system that any random person can report anything. But there are good reasons we don't consign determining the cause of death to the general public. Under normal circumstances approximately 8000 people at day die in the US every day from all causes. If you vaccinate 160 million people some of those 8000 will have just been vaccinated... that doesn't inescapably mean the vaccine killed them... unless you're Ursus.
